The best investment one could make is self-investment. Learning about who you are and what makes you tick is an incredibly useful data point. Through the last several years, I have found that the more I learn about myself, the happier I become.

I hope you enjoyed your weekend and brought in the new year with those you loved. This post was motivated by a Facebook post the summer of 2017, which I spent in Colorado.

The message is incredibly important to me; I find it to be one of the most important lessons I’ve learned during my short time here. In the new year, if you don’t do anything else, I would encourage you to learn about yourself.

Enjoy.

It wasn’t until recently that I even knew public lands existed. Growing up in Texas, where almost all the land is privately owned, I just assumed it was like that everywhere.

My assumptions were inaccurate but I came to that conclusion with all the info I had. Many times we form opinions based on only the evidence we have, not knowing everything else.

Through my travels, I’ve learned so much, about this great land we’re blessed to live in but also, and more importantly, about myself and who I am.

“Know thyself.”

Every place I visit, every view I find myself lost in, teaches me the slightest little bit about myself and where this journey of life will lead me.

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
– Terry Pratchett

I would encourage everybody to go away, even go by yourself. Force yourself to spend some alone time in some places that you have no comforts to resort to. I guarantee that you’ll learn more about yourself than you ever would imagine.
